wine

This was an unexpected surprise from my Uncle Vincent at Christmas time.  An exceptionally good Bordeaux for the price, drinkable alone but would go very well with food, I’m finding it goes particularly well with chocolate. Slight musty on the nose (my favorite quality in a Bordeaux) and lots of Blackberry. What I picked up (before I looked at the notes) is licorice but it’s really latent. Breathe it in deep and the licorice comes in way late and seems to take a couple of seconds to show up (so breath in long and slow) but it’s there. There is also a little  spice in there but light, noticable but light.

Exceptionally well balanced this is a very good bottle of wine, even if it’s a little more than you would usually spend on a bottle of wine.  Makes a great gift for the wine snob in your life.

P.S. The deep plum/ruby color is gorgeous.

Tildio 2004 Red Zinfandel

June 15, 2006

This wine was a welcome surprise discovered while visiting the Salish Lodge in Snoqualmie Falls, Washington. Big and fruit forward this wine reminded me of some of the big Californian Cab’s I’ve had but a little less “in-your-face”. The fruit is not overpowering but is again, forward. Balancing the fruit is just the right amount [...]

Porno Vino!

March 23, 2006

If in wine there really is truth she obviously has nothing to hide!
I’m actually quite interested in trying this wine. If it scored so well and had such a masterful winemaker behind it the rest is just marketing, and who says porn stars can’t also have good taste.
It’s also been a while since I have [...]

mmmm. Bordeaux

February 22, 2006

From WineSpectator some interesting notes on (my Favorite wine) Bordeaux.

“The best 2003 reds are extremely concentrated and structured, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon-based reds from well-known estates on the Left Bank. Some of the year’s top-scoring wines (17 rated 95 points or more) scored higher than in the 2000 vintage. It’s very hard to generalize, though, [...]

Gary Farrell 2003 Pinot Noir – Russian River Valley / Russian River Selection

January 20, 2006

This extremely drinkable wine managed to be nicely fruity without being sweet, delicate while still holding up well to food without sacrificing fullness with a touch of spice. Smooth and long on the tongue the fruit is well balanced. Color is gorgeous and dark. While I’m sure it opened up with time, this wine was [...]

David Bruce 2004 Central Coast Petite Sirah

January 6, 2006

Deep red color with a light but noticable spice characterizes this wine. Upon first consumption this Petitie Sirah is noticeably less fruty than others I have tried, however dry the tannins are present but light. The finish is more present on the front of your tounge and very smooth on the back. Berry flavors are [...]
